Updated May 2026·methodology

Overview
Kubota's Agri Robo Rice-Transplanter is the world's first automated rice-transplanter that operates without an onboard operator. It uses GPS mapping and route generation to perform 'expert full-field planting', achieving evenly-spaced seedling placement from corner to corner. The machine was launched in October 2020 and is designed to address labor shortages and aging farmer populations in Japan by automating the skilled task of rice transplanting, producing straight rows and avoiding obstacles such as paddy sluices.
