AI2 develops open-source AI systems for robotics and language understanding.
The Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) is a Seattle-based research institute that develops open-source AI systems for robotics. The institute created MolmoAct, an action reasoning foundation model that integrates perception, planning, and control for robotic manipulation. MolmoAct reasons in 3D space, converts 2D images into 3D visualizations, and enables real-time human adjustment of robot actions. The model is built on Ai2's Molmo multimodal AI foundation and trained on over 12,000 real-world robot episodes. Ai2 operates as a research-focused organization funded in part by the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
