LEOPARDSat-1

Built by UC CubeCats

Overview

LEOPARDSat-1 is a 1U CubeSat mission designed to study the effectiveness of lightweight carbon-based composites in shielding against ionizing radiation. The satellite will measure radiation dose differences between sensors protected by varying thicknesses of carbon-carbon/high-density polyethylene composite materials and unprotected sensors. This research will inform the spaceflight community on the viability of using these materials for future deep space missions, particularly for protecting astronauts on long-duration missions beyond Earth's magnetic field, such as Mars missions lasting approximately 500 days.
