Intelligent multi-legged walking robots for autonomous field research
FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik is a research center in Germany developing the LAURON family of six-legged (hexapod) walking robots since the early 1990s. LAURON V and LAURON VI are bio-inspired autonomous walking robots designed for traversing difficult terrain, carrying scientific payloads for environmental monitoring, and performing mobile manipulation tasks. The robots feature torque-controlled motors with flexible springs for impact absorption and are employed for research in dynamic locomotion, autonomy, and complex field missions. LAURON V participated in the DLR SpaceBot Camp 2015 for planetary exploration simulation.
