Overview

COMAN (COmpliant huMANoid) is a humanoid robot designed to safely interact with people and objects. Unlike most humanoids, it features compliant joints with torque sensing in its arms and legs that can move in a compliant way. It incorporates torque sensors in each motor and passive series elastic elements in 14 key actuators for hybrid active/passive control, enabling safe human-robot interaction even during collisions.

Flagship features

  • Compliant humanoid designed for safe interaction with people and objects
  • Equipped with torque and position control of all joints
  • Able to stabilize itself on uneven terrain or when pushed around
  • Part of the European Union-funded AMARSi project to advance whole-body manipulation, locomotion, and safe human-robot interaction
