Why Starship trended in Q2 2026

Starship Technologies · delivery
Deployment win

Starship Technologies expanded campus and grocery delivery fleets across new US and European markets.

Starship's quarter pointed in two directions at once. The company kept adding grocery and campus delivery in some markets, but the louder story was a retreat from US universities: several schools, including Notre Dame and North Carolina A&T, wound down their Starship programs, and the company's CEO publicly explained a decision to halt parts of its US university operations.

The pullback matters because campuses were long Starship's flagship US deployment — dense, contained environments well suited to sidewalk robots. Their exit raises questions about the unit economics of that model, even as the company's underlying delivery volume remains among the largest in the sector.

What to watch is where Starship redeploys that capacity. Grocery partnerships and European markets are the stated direction; whether they replace the campus business or merely offset it is the open question.
