Why Unitree G1 trended in Q2 2026

Unitree Robotics · humanoid
Funding

Volume leader among humanoids; Unitree filed for a Shanghai STAR Market IPO in Q2 on the back of G1 shipment numbers.

The G1 remained the humanoid that shows up most often in public — a sub-$20,000 machine Unitree has pushed as the volume leader in a field still dominated by six- and seven-figure prototypes. Coverage during the quarter ranged from the practical (price and availability comparisons against Tesla's Optimus) to the viral (clips of the G1 ice-skating and rollerblading).

Behind the demos, the more consequential development was financial: Unitree filed for a Shanghai STAR Market IPO, positioning itself among the first humanoid makers to test public markets, with G1 shipment numbers central to the pitch.

The gap to watch is between spectacle and utility. The G1's agility clips travel far online, but the investment case rests on shipment volume and real-world tasks — not on whether the robot can skate.
